Many of us have studied what ecology is in our environmental studies class. But before we jump into the discussion of what exactly ecology is and how it affects the environment, we need to know what an ecosystem is as an ecology is nothing but basically a subset of an ecosystem.
An ecosystem is one of the major important aspects that one needs to study. To start of with the discussion, we define an ecosystem as a specific area that comprises of biological life of all different forms and species existing in the specific environment. It should be importantly noted that we talk about a specific environment here, therefore about all the physical components that make up the environment like air, water, soil etc. All play a very major role. It should be also well noted that the most common factors that can possibly affect an ecosystem are composition, diversity, amount of biomass etc.

A finite amount of resources is present in the Earth and the amount of land which is required in order to support the consumption habits of an individual is known as the ecological footprint. In simple words ecological footprint can be described as the amount of earth’s resource required for the survival of an individual. Ecological footprints have been an important issue for many years. The population of world started to increase since the time human race became civilized. Slowly the population increased to the peak level and, as it increased, the usage of earth’s resources also increased. The population growth is increasing, but not the resources. The earth’s resources are limited. At present the condition is very critical as the resources became very less and no human force can increase the resource level of Earth.

The branch of science which deals with the study of interaction among living organisms is known as Ecology. It includes both intra species interactions and interspecies interactions and also the relationship shared by organisms with their respective chemical and physical environment. These arrangements of relationships have developed naturally along with the evolution. An ecosystem has got different levels and it’s directly associated with the formation of life. Without a suitable environment an organism or a particular species cannot survive in a particular place. With evolution the ecosystem may have been changed a bit but drastic changes can never be witnessed and the process is a very ancient one. From years the living organisms are evolving and at present the procedure is still a continuous one. A fixed state can never be achieved as organism evolve according to change of the environment.
