Many of us have studied what ecology is in our environmental studies class. But before we jump into the discussion of what exactly ecology is and how it affects the environment, we need to know what an ecosystem is as an ecology is nothing but basically a subset of an ecosystem.

An ecosystem is one of the major important aspects that one needs to study. To start of with the discussion, we define an ecosystem as a specific area that comprises of biological life of all different forms and species existing in the specific environment. It should be importantly noted that we talk about a specific environment here, therefore about all the physical components that make up the environment like air, water, soil etc. All play a very major role. It should be also well noted that the most common factors that can possibly affect an ecosystem are composition, diversity, amount of biomass etc.

Now most of the ecological studies are primarily related to environmental sciences with respect to
1. Understanding relationships with ecosystems and between organisms
2. Describing the tendency
3. Studying variations
4. Lastly, describing interactions between different institutions.

Ecology has always been considered to be a human science. With the wide amount of practical applications like application of ecology in biodiversity, city planning, community health etc.

Hierarchical ecology is a very peculiar kind of ecology where the scale of ecology dynamics covers a wide array of interacting levels of organization. Ecologist classifies ecosystems hierarchically by analyzing data collected from finer scale units. Ecologies can again be broken down into several types.

First we discuss about the community ecology. Under community ecology, what we notice is that community ecology is the interaction of a collection of species that inhabit all the same geographic area. To study the community ecology in a whole, one needs to understand the community connections between the creatures that include plants as well as decomposers.

The next category is ecosystem ecology. The history of such an ecosystem traces back to the year 1864. Ecosystem ecologies are of various kinds of sizes and forms. They form one category of multitudinous physical systems of the universe. Under this broad category, we further have ecosystem namely water ecosystem, terrestrial ecosystem and freshwater ecosystem.

Another famous subset in the ecology of the environmental system is the population ecology. Population ecology is the study of the dynamics of the species of population and how the population interact with the environment. It works in line with the Malthusian population trap. There have always been some ties between historical, scientific and ecological fields. These also have a relation with environment management and protection.

Ecology is a very important part of the environment and therefore what we really need now is to understand and care for the environment and reduce and optimize the use of natural resources. After all an healthy environment is what we all aim for.
